Basics

Adding an application to the launcher (reference) - right-click the application in the “start” menu and choose “Add to panel”
You can download extensions called “spices” from something like this https://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/view/296 (just click the download button). From there, you can add an applet via Settings -> Applets.
