Random techniques

  • Outline text (reference): make a new layer, add text in white, use the magic wand to select all of the text, go to Effects → Stylize → Outline, choose a thickness of ~6 and an intensity of 100.
  • Convert transparency to a solid background color (reference): just make a new layer with the color and reorder it to the bottom
  • New layer from selection (reference): select something → ctrl+X to cut → ctrl+shift+V to paste into new layer
