  • If you want to hear what you’re recording while you’re recording it, go to Transport → Software Playthrough (on/off)
  • If you’re only examining a single track, it helps to expand the track to fit the screen. I don’t think I knew this until after YEARS of casually using Audacity. Just drag the bottom of the track so that it fills the window.
