Basics

Linking to arbitrary lines of the document: Insert → Bookmark
Stop automatically capitalizing words (reference): Tools → Preferences → Automatically capitalize words
You can use https://docs.new/ to immediately make a new document instead of having to navigate through Google Drive. You can apparently customize the folder that it saves to (reference)

Keyboard shortcuts

Ctrl+alt+A, ctrl+alt+H: show or hide document outline
Alt+enter: navigate to the link under the cursor

Downloading images

UPDATE (Tue 11/05/2024): looks like you can now right-click, copy the image as markdown, then you can paste it into an online base64-to-png tool like this one. Note that the base64 part starts after the base64, and should not include the > at the end of the copied string.

Download as → Web page (html, zipped), then look in the images folder.
