  • Linking to arbitrary lines of the document: Insert → Bookmark
  • Stop automatically capitalizing words (reference): Tools → Preferences → Automatically capitalize words
  • You can use https://docs.new/ to immediately make a new document instead of having to navigate through Google Drive. You can apparently customize the folder that it saves to (reference)
  • The “tabs” feature is great for design documents—keep the main content in one tab and use another tab as a scratch pad.

UPDATE (Tue 11/05/2024): looks like you can now right-click, copy the image as markdown, then you can paste it into an online base64-to-png tool like this one. Note that the base64 part starts after the base64, and should not include the > at the end of the copied string.

Download as → Web page (html, zipped), then look in the images folder.

If Google Docs on Android ever says “can’t open document” and you’re certain you have permissions, just delete the app’s storage and try again. I usually wouldn’t have to take any action for this to eventually get resolved, but it was happening over the course of days and I even had it set to grant offline access.
